Now that the much anticipated UCC tournament is over, results have appeared on the EGD.
With a smaller turnout than in recent years, the tournament had quite a cosy feel to it. Atypically, the weather held up pretty well, with not a hint of the rain, wind, or bloody freezing temperatures that marked previous events. Thanks once again to the crew of the UCC Club for pulling off a smoothly run affair.
The IGA has also posted a few comments on the event.

Registration is now open for the 2014 Irish Go Congress occurring the weekend of February 14th-16th in Dublin. Celebrating 25 years of Go in Ireland, this promises to be a very special event. Full details are available here.
The IGA has announced a slow-paced correspondence tournament, which will run on DGS (and OGS), possibly starting as soon as next month. For more information, and to sign up, go to the tournament page.

The UCC Club have created a group on OGS, complete with a ladder tournament. To sign up, browse to http://online-go.com/group/89/
In a surprise move, OGS has merged with Nova. The new site carries OGS branding, and is currently accessible through both URLs. Although the official announcement says secrecy around the merger was required “for various technical reasons”, it sounds more like a political/organizational decision.
In any case, credit where credit is due. The merger was pulled off relatively smoothly. Hopefully those few features which have gone missing since the previous incarnation of OGS will be restored in the next update. Of the few transition-induced hiccups, the one most likely to adversely impact users was the loss of a day’s worth of moves from the OGS database. However, in the long-term, I’m cautiously optimistic that the move is a positive one and that future developments will lead to an even better place to play go.
UCC Go Club have posted details of their 2013 tournament, which will take place on December 7th-8th.
