The UCC Club is changing its name, as per a recent statement on the club’s mailing list:
In other news, the name of the club is changing; from UCC Go Club to UCC Weiqi club (the difference being, as you probably know, that the former is Japanese and the latter Chinese). This is for a couple of reasons. Firstly, for those who don’t know, “go” is an uninteresting term which doesn’t attract much attention at first glance. “Weiqi”, on the other hand, makes us sound like dancing ninja monkeys. Or something. Secondly, we hope to avoid laboured puns on the noun “go” and the English verb from people who wander in by mistake and ask what we’re doing.
The alternative suggestion for our new name was the UCC “No, it’s not Othello” Club.
